APICS Southwest Michigan Chapter Home Page
Dear APICS Southwest Michigan Chapter Members,
On September 9, 2020, we were notified of an ASCM New Future Chapters model. The outcome of this change was to have Chapters, if you sold enough Educational material & Classes, and Forums, if you did not sell enough Educational material & Classes.
In the State of Michigan, the Grand Rapids Chapter and the Detroit Chapter were the only ones that qualified or would qualify based on early 2021 course registration. The Southwest Michigan Chapter did not qualify and was offered to become a Forum.
To quote directly from the ASCM Notification, “As an ASCM Professional Forum, you will have the ability to create an organization that is finely tuned to meeting member needs while being able to take advantage of resources that ASCM has to offer as well. Although you will no longer be able to directly provide APICS training, there are still opportunities to collaborate in a meaningful way with ASCM directly or with an ASCM Chapter to ensure the APICS training needs of your members are met.”
Unfortunately, training was the primary source of income for our chapter. Although we originally accepted the offer to become a Forum, the Board of Directors, after careful consideration and discussion, decided at our January Board Meeting to terminate our affiliation with ASCM. This was not an easy decision as many local Board members have been ASCM/APICS volunteers for over 10 years and have a close affiliation to the old APICS. This termination will take effect on 01/14/2021.
As a local member, your membership will most likely be assigned to the Grand Rapids chapter. You have the ability to contact ASCM and have your membership assigned to Detroit, or to become a Member at Large with no chapter affiliation. You must contact ASCM directly to have any changes made.
As a Board, it has been our privilege to serve the local membership and the Southwest Michigan community. We are saddened that we have to say goodbye to what was once and incredible organization. We are also saying goodbye to many dedicated professionals that our chapter has worked with, and provided services for, since our inception in December 1981.
Respectfully,
The APICS Southwest Michigan Chapter Board of Directors
